Won the Sch ü co Excellence Award in 2025 for constructing a 400 ㎡ fire-resistant glass safety barrier for transportation hubs

Recently, Pyroguard, a global leader in high-performance fire-resistant glass, collaborated with renowned curtain wall frame manufacturer Sch ü co to successfully deliver an integrated high-performance fire-resistant exterior wall solution for Belfast Central Station. With cutting-edge technology, Pyroguard aims to help Ireland's largest integrated transportation hub achieve a perfect integration of safety and aesthetics.

Belfast Central Station is located in the city center with a total investment of 340 million pounds. It integrates the former Grand Victoria Street Station with the Europa Bus Centre, with an annual passenger throughput of up to 20 million people. It is a landmark comprehensive transportation hub that integrates railways, buses, and slow traffic.

To meet the stringent fire and building design requirements of the project, Pyroguard worked closely with Carey Glass and professional contractor Williaam Cox to create a fully certified fire-resistant curtain wall system. The project adopts over 400 square meters of Pyroguard Protect fire-resistant glass and is precisely integrated with Sch ü co FW 50+FR 60 curtain wall system, forming a complete facade solution that combines safety and uniformity.

The Pyroguard Protect T-EI60/25-3 fire-resistant glass used in this application can achieve a fire resistance time of 60 minutes, and also supports the application of large format glass, ensuring that the building facade is transparent and coherent, and the view is unobstructed. This system not only plays a key role in the building fire protection system, but also perfectly achieves the bright and transparent visual effect pursued by architects.

During the project implementation process, the Pyroguard technical team provided professional support throughout the entire process, with profound product and system technical experience, ensuring that all performance indicators met standards and achieving seamless integration between glass and curtain wall systems. In addition to excellent fire resistance, this glass also has 1B1 impact resistance, P1a resistance to violent damage, strong sound insulation, excellent thermal insulation performance, and up to 80% light transmittance. While meeting the highest safety standards, it maximizes the introduction of natural lighting, improving building safety and user comfort.

With innovative engineering design, coherent and unified facade effects, excellent structural performance, and large-scale building enclosure integration capabilities, this project has won the 2025 Sch ü co Excellence Award and become a benchmark case for fire-resistant curtain walls in the field of transportation construction.
