Recently, NorthGlass completed a floating staircase project with a total weight of 5 tons. The project required the staircase structure to achieve a fully floating effect. Initially, several collaborating parties deemed the design unfeasible for construction, with the core challenges concentrated on the processing and installation of curved structural glass.
The staircase has a total height of 4.2 meters, comprising 27 steps, and features an upper support structure design. The main body of the staircase is supported by curved tempered glass panels and concealed steel connectors. The upper glass panel bears the entire structural load, while the lower glass panel serves only to restrict lateral displacement and does not participate in structural load-bearing.
During the project implementation, NorthGlass must ensure comprehensive precision control throughout the bending glass process, with key technical control points including glass curvature accuracy, optical quality, lamination precision, and panel connector alignment. Since the overall structural assembly relies on the geometric dimensional matching of glass panels, minor deviations during glass processing will directly impact the overall installation effect of the staircase.
After technical control and processing optimization, the floating staircase has been installed and put into use. The staircase structure lacks external support components, visually presenting a suspended state. The project achieved the installation of a heavy-glass floating staircase through high-precision glass processing technology.
